The European Stories event will celebrate all EUPL 2022 nominees on 6 December in readings and on a grand stage at Flagey culture house in Brussels, Belgium. The event will be attended by Mariya Gabriel (European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth), Sabine Verheyen MEP (Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament), Sonia Draga (Vice President of the Federation of European Publishers) and Jean-Luc Treutenaere (Co-President of the European & International Booksellers Federation).

While we will honour this year's prize winner, Georgian author Iva Pezuashvili with his novel “A Garbage Chute”, as well as the 5 special mentions from Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Ireland, Spain and Ukraine, you will also have the opportunity to listen and exchange with all the authors during the reading sessions, as they take you on a journey through their work and inspiration behind it, as well as through Europe's unique linguistic richness and diversity.

Programme:

18.30 - Readings: Join one of the four thematic groups in the different studios in Flagey to meet our 2022 authors and hear them read an excerpt from their book in their mother tongue. Each reading will be followed by a moderated discussion about the books and the writers' respective careers.
19:30 – Main event: The main celebration will take place on the Flagey stage, starting with introductory words from our VIP guests, and followed by a wider presentation of the nominated authors in the form of an exchange between authors and our Master of Ceremony, journalist Joris Vergeyle.

Young Publishing Professionals in Brussels #YPPiB first edition

The idea behind the Young Publishing Professionals programme in Brussels is to inspire and engage young professionals in the publishing sector from as many FEP member countries as possible, involve them in the overall European idea and the defence of industry values, such as freedom of expression. To enable networking among the YPPs and with FEP and to motivate them to carry the torch of FEP's vision and aims to their home countries, organisations, and peer groups. Furthermore, to put YPPs in the position to tie first contacts to Members of Parliament in Brussels and subsequently to find the next generation of publishing professionals to support national and FEP's advocacy work in the future.

Awards Ceremony of the 2017 European Union Prize for Literature

The 12 winning authors from the participating countries in 2017 will be presented an award by Mr. Tibor Navracsics, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport; in the presence of Members of the European Parliament and public figures from the fields of culture, literature and politics.

Selected countries in 2017 are Albania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Serbia, Turkey, and United Kingdom.

The ceremony will take place at Concert Noble, Rue d'Arlon 82, 1000 Bruxelles, on 23rd May in the evening and will be followed by a cocktail party.
