At the eve of the 2024 elections, European publishers call on the European Parliament to uphold a vibrant publishing sector, the largest cultural industry in Europe, ensuring that we can continue to freely publish a wide variety of books, guaranteeing freedom of expression, a plurality of opinions and our democratic values.

The FEP Manifesto 2019
European publishers keep bringing stories and the creativity of their authors to Europe and the world; they provide original content, curated, verified knowledge and information, education and invaluable food for everyone’s thoughts. Books have always been a vital component of Europe’s history, of its culture and economy. This is why the Federation of European Publishers has drafted a manifesto in order to outline the areas in which EU policy makers can make a difference by ensuring that the European publishing sector remains a beacon of excellence and continues innovating and benefitting all citizens. Through a series of principles and recommendations, FEP and its members call for an EU-wide policy framework that enhances the opportunities of the sector and multiplies the value it brings to the European society.
