In Memoriam of Fergal Tobin

Fergal Tobin with two former FEP Presidents, on his left John Clement (1996-1998) and his right, Piotr Marciszuk (2012-2014) at a session during the 50-years anniversary of FEP in 2017.

President from 2010 to 2012, Fergal was an integral and intrinsic part of the FEP family. Professionally, first of all, Fergal was the best teacher in publishing, having written and helped publish the booklet The whole world is here, What do publishers do? and even having given a course on publishing at the European Commission (those who were there will remember his furrowed brow but also his cordial answers to the sometimes far-fetched questions he was asked). As Vice-President of Federico Motta and then as President, he was in every conversation with European politicians, combining his knowledge of the issues with his immense professional expertise. Many of us will also remember him as a wonderful travel and meeting companion. Sociable, and sharing with colleagues, he was an active member of our Beer2Beer network. The FEP team and colleagues will miss him. You can live stream the funeral which will be at 11 am GMT (12 CET) on Friday 10 February here. Donations requested in lieu of flowers to RNLI.
