FEP laments the passing of the Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina

It is another sad day in Ukraine where we have learned of the passing of Victoria Amelina, the Ukrainian author. Victoria succumbed to wounds suffered during the bombing of Kramatorsk on 27 June, where she was hit while dining with Colombian friends.

Since the start of the war, Victoria was committed to reporting the atrocities of this war for the organisation Truth Hounds and at the World Expression Forum in Lillehammer, she received the IPA Prix Voltaire Special Award on behalf of children’s author and poet, Volodymyr Vakulenko, who was killed during the Russian occupation of the city of Kharkiv last year.

Even if our encounter was brief, we were impressed with this young woman who was as courageous as she was eloquent. Condolences to her family and friends.

Both Victoria Amelina and Volodymyr Vakulenko were also authors of children’s books. FEP encourages publishers wishing to participate in the Tales of EUkraine project to publish bilingual editions of their books.
